Rainbow Stripe Nail Art | Colorful Nail Ideas

Another day, another colorful nail idea for me to share with you! This one looks way harder than it is, and everyone will be very impressed with your nail painting skills when you rock up with this manicure (if your friends and fam are anything like mine).



What you need:


  • Base color(s) - I use a combo of EC and Strawberry Scone from Olive & June every time I do a negative space nail design. It’s the perfect “your nails but better” while still giving you a little coverage (which I need as I almost always have some sort of staining from my last manicure and a lot of my nails are ridged).

  • Nail design brush - I use the long skinny one for stripes out of [this set]. She’s an old faithful and while the bristles sometimes get crazy after I wash the brush in between manicures, it hasn’t failed me yet!

  • Olive & June Long Lasting polish - I had a hard time deciding what batch of colors I’d use so I ended up doing a combo of 5 because making decisions is hard! (Bold & Unshaken, Grateful & Kind, Citrus Squeeze, Cucumber Sandwich, Honest & True)

  • Olive & June Long Lasting Top Coat - no set is done without top coat!



I start with taking off my old polish and doing my usual prep routine (which is sooo important for the longevity of your manicure!). Then I do my base - one coat EC, one coat Strawberry Scone, then another coat of EC. (Honestly, I think I do a different variation of this pair every time I do this base. I can never really remember what I had done the last time haha but it always comes out good!)

Now the fun part - the stripes! I decided to go in rainbow order across all nails. The key to these stripes is going slow and kinda laying the long skinny brush across the nail as you're painting the line.


You may think the line looks kinda messy at first - don’t worry about it. Another coat may do the trick, but what will definitely smooth things out is the top coat at the end. Promise!



After all the stripes are done, wait for them to dry completely, then add your top coat. This took me only about one and a half episodes of Vanderpump Rules to do from start to finish, so not too bad of a time commitment!
